Makeup Declutter: Round 1!

If you have a large makeup collection then you know how easy it is to end up with products that you have purchased that you simply never reach for.  Even with the best of intentions I don’t think any of us can honestly say that we are happy with EVERY purchase we make.

I am trying to move some such products on from my own collections and (where appropriate) give them to others who might love them more than I do.  So here are the products that I am decluttering this time round.

DSC02840

The first product is this tinted moisturiser from E.L.F.  and as you can see from the swatch… I totally ordered the wrong colour by accident.  This is WAY too dark for me and needs to find a new home.

DSC02842And here we have another online shopping fail.  The Matte Perfect Foundation from MUA.  It says ‘fair’, but it is not fair enough for my pale skin.  This is the lightest colour in the range though so fair ladies, be warned!

DSC02836Take three on the online shopping fails.  This is the Makeup Revolution Liquid Concealer in the colour ‘Natural’.  This has quite a thick formula and I have  tried to make this work on my very dark under eye circles but to be honest, this is too dark for me too.

DSC02826 Now these three eyeshadows make me sad.  All three are cream, metallic, foiled eyeshades; one from Makeup Revolution and two from Australis.  I wanted to love these so much but I just couldn’t make them work for me at all – or at least I didn’t enjoy the way they looked on the eye even though they are SO beautiful in the pot.  If you want to read my full review on these eye foils you can find it here.

DSC02844Now this ‘Mix it – Colour Correcting Foundation’ simply didn’t work for me.  I found that on my skin, this broke down very quickly and just didn’t work for me.  I have also reviewed this one in detail and if you are interested you can find it here.

Although I do make an effort to really make everything I buy work for me, sometimes I think it is better to gift things to others that are only going to collect dust in your own collection.

I hope you are having a fantastic day!

Things I don’t Love: Australis, Mix it – Colour Correcting Foundation

Welcome to another instalment of the ‘Things I don’t Love’ series 🙂  It is time for a chat about foundation.

I purchased this Mix it: Colour Correcting Foundation during a site wide 50% off sale that Australis held towards the end of last year.  I was drawn to this product as it claimed to colour correct the complexion as well as nourish and hydrate the skin with Argan oil, pomegranate, vitamin E and pink grapefruit essential oil as well as helping to clear acne with Licorice Root.  Plus, it has SPF 25 sunscreen!

Great, right?

wish this product worked for me.  Really, I do, because it sounds like a dream.  It smells really nice (faintly of sweet citrus) and is quite a good colour match but this is one of the worst foundations I have ever used.

Mix it – Colour Correcting Foundation in the colour Nude.

I find that this foundation is SUPER greasy on my skin.  It sits on my skin and immediately looks cakey because it falls into all the pores and creases – any of the texture of my skin is amplified.  I would describe the coverage of this foundation as light to medium at best.  It can be layered but when I have attempted that it turns into an oil slick.  I think the part about this foundation that I really don’t love is that it stays very tacky.  It doesn’t set.  Even when I try to set it with a powder it stays kind of wet and if you touch your face it comes away on your hand.

One layer of the foundation blended out with a beauty blender – the coverage is light.

So.  When all those powers combine this foundation breaks down really quickly on me.  Like, really quickly.  When I applied this, this morning, by the time I finished leisurely applying my makeup it had already started to break down around my nose and around my chin! (N.B. it is summer here and it was warm this morning).

I always use a face primer and I have tried to apply this with various brushes, a beauty blender and my fingers and it really doesn’t make any difference to the look and wear of this foundation.  My personal experience is that this sits on the face unnaturally and then melts off 😦

I would not purchase this foundation again, but, I can say that Australis also makes one of my favourite foundations (the Stayput 16hr foundation), so the fact that this foundation hasn’t worked for me is not a reflection on the brand as a whole.  And just because the Mix it – Colour Correcting Foundation didn’t work for me, doesn’t necessarily mean it won’t work for you.

Have a fantastic day!

Australis Cosmetics Haul!

I have been looking for a new foundation.  We are coming into summer and it is about to get extremely hot and humid and this is the time where my makeup starts to break down.  I had already decided that I was going to try something from Australis Cosmetics as I haven’t tried a foundation from them before and they are a great Australian, cruelty-free brand SO when they had a 48hr flash sale last week where everything on their website was 50% off I thought it was the perfect time to try some face products from their range.

I haven’t tried these products yet so this is going to be a haul rather than a first impression or review but I look forward to feeding back to you with some reviews once I have given these a really good try 🙂

'Fresh and Flawless Pressed Powder' in Natural

‘Fresh and Flawless Pressed Powder’ in Natural

The ‘Fresh and Flawless Pressed Powder’ is one of the most popular Australis products so I am excited to give it a go.  They advertise it as being a 2-in-1 foundation and pressed powder so we will see what kind of additional coverage it offers.

'Mix it Foundation' in Nude

‘Mix it Foundation’ in Nude

The ‘Mix it  Colour Correcting Foundation’ claims to be a creamy, light-weight, water based formula that will provide medium coverage.  I am hoping that the water-based formula of this foundation will hold up to the summer humidity without breaking down too quickly!

'Stay Put Longwear Foundation!' in Nude

‘Stay Put Longwear Foundation!’ in Nude

This foundation claims to be long-lasting, smudge-free and contains a SPF15 with up to 16 hours of wear.  If you live in Australia you know that SPF is really important and again, I’m keen to put that ‘long-lasting’ claim to the test through the summer heat.

'CC Foundation' in Nude

I actually brought this ‘CC foundation’ out of pure curiosity.  I haven’t used a CC cream before and at 50% off – it seemed like a good time for experimentation.  I do get redness on my cheeks so I am hoping that this may help to colour-correct that.

Pretty Pastels Palette

Pretty Pastels Palette

Lastly, as an impulse buy, I picked up the ‘Pretty Pastels Palette.’  This palette looks like it will be good for travel.  It contains a face powder which is a good colour match for me as well as a blush and bronzer, and three eyeshadows.  The colour products in here all contain some shimmer but they are certainly pretty pastels.

So that is my Australis 50% off haul.  Australis do ship internationally so if you are interested you can find their online store here.  If you sign up to their newsletter you get a 25% off coupon which is a good deal.

Have a great day cruelty-free makeup lovers!
