Revolution Beauty: Jelly Highlighter

I purchased one of the jelly highlighters in Prestigious from Revolution Beauty ‘Jewel Collection’ purely out of curiosity.  I mean… its JELLY.  What does that even mean?!?

Firstly, the packaging is lux: its a glass jar with a very sparkly rose gold lid.  The texture of this product is very interesting.  It is a very bouncy, thick mousse.  It is a really unique texture and the only other product I have that is anything like it in my collection is the Jelly Much eye shadows from ColourPop cosmetics.  Once you apply this highlighter to your skin it is thin, smooth and dries down completely.

I apply this with a duo fibre brush over bare skin or foundation but before any powder.  I use powder sparingly and I find that this highlighter shines on through even when powdered but if I want something more the I will apply a powder highlighter over the top as well.

Now here is where we get to the important part – this is REALLY beautiful.  It is just stunning on the skin.  The formula really does melt into the skin and looks seamless.  I wouldn’t suggest that this looks ‘natural’ as it is quite a wet, bright highlighter but it does look like skin rather than a streak of powder on the cheek.  At 36 years old, my skin is aging and while I love highlighters, they can emphasise texture and wrinkles but I find that this is not the case with this jelly formula.  Winning!

I live in a very hot and humid climate and during the summer months makeup literally melts off my face but this jelly highlighter sets and STAYS.  At the end of the day my blush, bronzer and foundation may have faded but my highlighter is still shining bright.

I had zero expectations when I purchased this product.  It seemed gimmicky and I expected it to be a bit of a fail but curiosity won out and I’m so glad I gave it a try.  I genuinely love this.  Prestigious is a pink tone which I love but Revolution also have a gold and white shade in the ‘Jewel Collection’ range and I think I will definitely pick up the gold version when I next make an order.

You can purchase this highlighter from the Revolution Beauty website for world wide shipping or if you live in Australia you can also find Revolution products at Glamraider.

Have a wonderful day!

Makeup Revolution: Ultra Eye Contour Light & Shade

The Ultra Eye Contour Light & Shade palette from Makeup Revolution if an obvious dupe of the Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette from Kat Von D.  It has a great range of tones including a neutral quad, cool quad and warm quad which I think makes this palette extremely versatile.  Although the packaging itself is quite cheap looking, it does come with a dual-ended brush that is functional.

I do enjoy the the fact that there are three ‘base’ shades provided in larger pans as these probably will be my most used shades from the palette.  My only complaint regarding shade selection relates to the fact that we basically have four shades of cream in this palette and to be fair… ain’t nobody needing four shades of cream!  On the eye, they all look pretty much the same which is a bit of a waste of palette space in my opinion.  Saying that, the formula on these shadows is really great.  I find they do kick up a bit of product when you dip your brush in, but the softness of the formula does mean they are very easy to blend out.  They are also nicely pigmented!  So – onto the swatches 🙂

I am happy to report that this is my favourite formula of Makeup Revolution matte shadows to date.  I find myself reaching for this palette every time I need some additional matte shades for a look, but this really does perform as a stand alone palette as well.  I have taken to keeping this palette in the drawer with my ColourPop Super Shock shadows as this palette really does compliment all of the colours of shimmery lid shades that I own as single shadows.  As I said – so versatile.

I think this palette is an absolute bargain.  Obviously, I can’t compare this to the Kat Von D palette that it dupes as I do not own that palette, but reviewing this as a product in its own right, I can absolutely recommend it.

If you are interested in checking this palette out for yourself you can find it on the TAM Beauty website for AU$13 and they ship internationally!

Have a wonderful day 🙂
