ColourPop: Double Entendre Eyeshadow Palette

I stalled for the longest time before ordering any of the ColourPop pressed shadows.  It seemed like making a first purchase could have the potential to release an avalanche of future buys so I put it off, and I was right to do so.  I really enjoy the formula so when ColourPop held a number of site wide 20% off sales before christmas 2017 suddenly I found myself putting in a second order!  Oh man.

First row swatches: Locked & Loaded, Uninhibited, Hot Bod, Flasher

I have enjoyed all the palettes that I have purchased from ColourPop so far, but by far the one that I have enjoyed the most for everyday wear is the ‘Double Entendre’.  It has a combination of shadow formulas including 7 mattes, 3 metallic shades, 1 satin shade and one glitter shadow.  It is a warm colour palette for sure and reminds me very much of the vibes coming from the Tarte Toasted palette which has been really popular.

Second Row swatches: Nekkid, Extra Curricular, Hard, Draft

So lets review the pros and cons of this little guy:

Pros:

  •  Cruelty-free.
  •  Compact and travel friendly.
  •  12 x 0.85g shadows.
  • Sturdy cardboard packaging (which I prefer to plastic)
  • The mattes blend beautifully – so easy to use!
  • The metallics are really pigmented and apply beautifully with a finger or some fixing spray for a very reflective look.
  • These last well on the eye.
  • Budget friendly!! These retail for US$16

Third Row Swatches: Keep it PG, Nip Slip, Send Noodles, Teddy Bare

Cons:

  • The matte shades will kick up a lot of product when you dip into them.  Take a light touch and tap off your brush well.
  • The satin shade ‘Flasher’ lacks pigmentation and is very firmly pressed.  I find it picks up better with a brush than on my finger.  It is a pretty brow highlight or inner corner highlight but it is more glossy than metallic. It is a bit of a dud in my opinion.
  • I don’t dig glitter shades so I’m not about ‘hot bod’ BUT the glitter does transfer well when applied so if that is your jam you may love this shade.
  • Two of the three metallic shades, ‘Uninhibited’ and ‘Draft,’ are really quite similar.  I would have preferred two really distinct metallic colours here.
  • The shade names are pretty tragic…
  • This palette has identical packaging to the ‘I think I love you’ palette: a bit annoying if you own both.
  • There is no mirror included in this palette – totally not an issue for me but worth mentioning.

As a final note, these palettes are magnetic which means you can easily rearrange the shades to your own order preference OR if you own multiple 12 pan palettes you can mix and match between them.  I decided to reorganise my Double Entendre palette in terms of formula and tone and it now looks like this 🙂  Just a bit more user friendly for a novice like me!

Overall, I think this is a great little palette.  Excellent quality at a great price and ethically produced.  If you haven’t tried the ColourPop pressed shadows I would say give them a go for sure but just know that they release new things all the time so you might be opening the door to a new addiction!!

Have a glorious day!

Makeup Use Up – 2018

Project panner – I am not.

Minimalist?  Nope.  Not me.

I am all about that organised clutter, eccentric decorations, bright furniture and a gazillion frames of pictures and paintings… and I have a big Makeup collection that I very much enjoy rotating through.  I declutter products that I don’t use regularly or don’t love and I donate them to the hair and beauty department of my local secondary school, so what I have I do really enjoy.  If you came here to see lots of empty eyeshadow palettes and blush pans I am sure to disappoint you.

Saying that, I do have a lot of makeup products in my collection that are partly used that I want to finish, need to be used before they are out of date or are small sizes that I just want to finish off and move on out of my life.  So I have decided to challenge myself to focus on these items through 2018 to make sure I really get my money’s worth out of what I own.

Primers: Nude by Nature Airbrush mineral primer, E.L.F. Daily moisture stick, E.L.F. Mineral Face Primer, Freedom Makup London PROSTUDIO Priming water and Fixing spray

I have a number of products that I use to help my makeup last on my face that I want to get through this year.  I very much enjoy the Nude by Nature airbrush mineral primer and the Freedom fixing spray so these will be easy to finish off and both are about half done already.

The E.L.F. Daily moisture stick is also a product I enjoy but just don’t reach for enough so want to focus on using that.  Freedom isn’t my favourite brand of priming water but I only have about a quarter of the bottle left so just want to finish it off.  And finally, the E.L.F. Mineral face primer… I haven’t given this much of a go and it has been in my collection for over a year so I want to either use it up orif I don’t love it then declutter it.

Base products: E.L.F. Tone correcting powder in cool, E.L.F. High definition undereye setting powder, Nude by Nature mineral finishing veil, Evelyn Iona Cosmetics natural and organic concealer, Nude by Nature Liquid mineral concealer, Australis Oh2Glow Foundation, Australis Stayput! Longwear foundation, E.L.F. Acne Fighting Foundation and Makeup Revolution The One concealer.

I have a number of base products that are small or well used that I want to finish off this year.  All three of these foundations are half gone already and I just want to focus on getting them finished.  I have already hit major pan on the E.L.F. Tone correcting powder already and I am keen to finish off the Nude by Nature finishing vail mini which shouldn’t be hard to do.  The E.L.F. Undereye setting powder is really nice, but I just need to use it up now as it is quite an old product in my collection.  As for the three concealer – I really enjoy the Nude by Nature mineral concealer and the Evelyn Iona concealer and these are both minis so I don’t want them to get lost in my collection and go to waste.  The Makeup Revolution concealer is one that I haven’t decided if I like… again, i just need to give it a good go and either finish it up or declutter it.

Eye Products: E.L.F. Eye refresh, hydrating under eye primer, eyelid primer, mineral eyeshadow primer, brow pencil and mascara primer.  Eye of Horus bio lash lift mascara and ColourPop super shock shadow in Supermodel.

I have a lot of E.L.F. eye products here that I want to get through and these are all things I enjoy but are a bit neglected in my collection.  I particularly like the under eye primer and the brow pencil.  The eye refresh is a nice treat, but I just need to remember to use it!  As for the eyeshadow primers and mascara primer – these are getting old and I need to use them up!

The Eye of Horus bio lash lift mascara is a really nice product but it is EXPENSIVE so I want to make sure I get my money’s worth out of it before it dries out.  And finally, I have a lot of the ColourPop super shock shadows so I have chosen one to focus on to use up completely.

Colour products: Thin Lizzy 6in1 powder, Nude by Nature Sheer Light Illuminator, Adorn Cosmetics Illuminiser, Luna Minerals Bronzer, Mineral Blush in ‘Grapefruit’ (the sample doesn’t have the brand name on it??) and the Hanami Vegan mineral lipstick in Valley of the Dolls.

Lastly we have some coloured face products.  I have chosen two bronzers here – the Luna Minerals sample and the Thin Lizzy 6in1 powder.  I really enjoy both of these products – the Luna sample should be easy enough to get through as it is small.  The Thin Lizzy compact will be more of a challenge but it is an older product in my collection and I don’t want it to go bad before I have used it up – it is such a beautiful bronzer!

I have two highlighters here too – the Nude by Nature Sheer Light Iluminator and the Adorn Cosmetics Illuminser.  These two actually work really well together.  I use the liquid after foundation but before I set my face, and then top with the Adorn Illuminiser powder and it is a very pretty combination.  These are both mini sizes so I hope to have them finished easily before the end of the year.

I also have a mineral blush sample here that I got in a Vegan beauty box… but I can’t remember the brand!  The shade is ‘Grapefruit’ and it is beautiful so I want to get my use out of it even if I don’t know the product details.

Lastly, I have the Hanami Vegan mineral lipstick.  I really haven’t given this a proper go and  it is quite an expensive lipstick so I want to put it in this project to remind myself to wear it. I doubt I will get through the whole thing in 2018 as I tend to wear nudes and this is a pink shade BUT I am going to give it a go.

So there you have it.  28 products that I would like to use up in 2018!  I will check back in with you all mid-year and then at the end of the year to monitor my progress.

If you are trying to use up some of your makeup products this year I would love to hear from you 🙂

Have a great day!
